McRae-Helena, Georgia, Information:
McRae-Helena is a city in, and the county seat of, Telfair County, Georgia. McRae-Helena is in the northern part of Telfair County which is in south-central Georgia. It has been the county seat since 1871. In 2010, the census reported the popular population as 5,740; however, it is difficult to determine growth or loss because in the years between 2000 and 2010 McRae-Helena merged with unincorporated areas as well as the area including the area where the McRae Correctional Institution is located.
The McRae Correctional Institution is owned and operated by the Corrections Corporation of America and there have so many complaints filed that the ACLU has asked the federal Bureau of Prisons to not renew the contract with the company.
In the year 2015, McRae and the town of Helena merged and formed the town of McRae-Helena.

The Mayor of McRae-Helena is Mayor Mike Young. He served on the Council of the City of Helena and was the Mayor of Helena. On January 1, 2015 Mayor Young became the first Mayor of the newly formed McRae-Helena.
