Montezuma, Georgia, Information:
Montezuma is a city in Macon County, Georgia and it is home to the armory of Bravo Company, 648th Engineers of the Georgia Army National Guard. The city was named after the famous Aztec leader by soldiers who were returning from the Mexican War. There was also a thriving Mennonite community there, numbering over 100 members mainly with the surnames of Yoder, Kaufman, and Overholt. Although the Mennonites are still there, the numbers of surnames have increased to over 20 unique names and Mennonite children are typically married by the age of 18-20 years of age. During the 2010 census, the population was recorded at 3,460; however, estimates from the year 2016 show a decrease in population to 3,1422 residents.
In 2017, Montezuma ranked #4,928 out of 15,393 of the “Most Diverse Places to Live in America,” and #227 out of 449 of the “Most Diverse Places to Live In Georgia.”
