The town is named for the “Ty Ty Creek” that is near the town, although some sources suggest that it is named for the “Ty Ty trees” that grew alongside the creek. It is in the lower third of the state. In 2010, the census counted the population of Ty Ty at 725 and in 2016 it was estimated that it had grown to 726.

    There is currently no Police Department in the city of Ty Ty, although the residents have expressed the desire to have one to Mayor Beasley. The Mayor stated that the main problem with crime in Ty Ty “boils down to drugs.” At the time the article was published Mayor Beasley was not keen on having a police department in the small city of Ty Ty, believing that the town could not afford the level of police protection necessary. Ironically, Mayor Beasley was a victim of a violent crime in Ty Ty on August 24, 1988 when his now ex-wife shot him in the back of the head while he was asleep. Discussions concerning a police department in Ty Ty are ongoing.
