Waycross, Georgia is the county seat of, only incorporated city in, Ware County, Georgia. Ware County is the largest county, geographically, in the state of Georgia. In fact, the locals say that Waycross is “the largest city in the largest county in the largest state, east of the Mississippi. Part of the city of Waycross used to be in Pierce County; however in 1995 a law was introduced in the Georgia legislature which essentially made it illegal for Waycross to be in Pierce County and the town has been in Ware County only ever since. In the 2010 Census, the population of Waycross was recorded at 14,649 but it has since decreased and it was estimated to be around 14,100 in 2016.
