West Point, Georgia is a city that is on the border of Georgia and Alabama. Most of the city is in Troup County, Georgia but the south end of town extends into Harris County. The part of the city that is in Harris County is part of the Columbus, Georgia Metropolitan Area and the part that is in Troup County in the LaGrange, GA Micropolitan Statistical Area. During the 2010 Census, the population of West Point was 3,474 but in 2016 the population was estimated to have grown to 3,766.

    The Chief of Police of West Point, Georgia retired in July and the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to hire Avery Cook as the new Police Chief. Cook began his career in West Point in the year 2000 and left in 2013 to work in Clay County. Cook is glad to be returning to West Point but his start date has not be determined.
