The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office was established in Macon in 1823. Sheriff David Davis was elected sheriff of Bibb County in November of 2012.

Sheriff Davis is a lifelong resident of Macon-Bibb County and began his career at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office in December of 1979. He is a graduate of Central High School and Macon State College and attended Georgia State University and the University of Virginia. Davis is also a graduate of the 212th session of the FBI National Academy.

Since becoming sheriff in January of 2013, Davis has guided the successful merger of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office with the Macon Police Department. In 2015 the Sheriff’s Office achieved Georgia State Law Enforcement Certification through the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. He has overseen the implementation of many significant initiatives at the office during his tenure. These include the CHAMPS Program in the middle schools and the PRIDE Initiative in the greater community.

Sheriff Davis is a member of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association, where he serves on the Standards and Training committee, the FBI National Academy Associates, the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the National Information Officers Association. Davis is also a member of the Exchange Club of Macon.

MEDIA RELEASE UPDATE: Fatal Accident on I-75 South Bound at Eisenhower Pkwy

The Bibb County Sheriff Office was notified that 63 year-old Judy Simmons was pronounced deceased by Navicent Health Medical Center employee’s just after 9:00pm. Mrs. Simmons was the passenger in the vehicle. The next of kin has been notified.

Fatal Accident on I-75 South Bound at Eisenhower Pkwy

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single vehicle fatal traffic accident that occurred on I-75 south bound at the Eisenhower Parkway Exit ramp, just before 5:30pm Saturday night. It was reported that a 76yr old Samuel Simmons, of Macon was exiting I75 south bound onto Eisenhower Pkwy, when his Suzuki Grand Vitara swerved off the ramp and struck a sign and a tree. Samuel was pronounced deceased on scene by the Bibb County Coroner. Next of kin has been notified. Samuel’s wife was in the vehicle with him and was taken to the Navicent Health Medical Center and is listed in stable condition at this time.

MEDIA RELEASE: Navicent Health Medical Center Ambulance Stolen with Employee in Vehicle

Just after 8:30pm tonight Bibb County Deputies responded to the area of Pio Nono Avenue in regards to assisting Navicent Health Medical Center Police Department locate a stolen ambulance with one of their employee’s still in it. The employee was restocking the ambulance at 675 New Street, Navicent Ambulance Center. A black female jumped in the driver’s seat and drove off the lot with the employee still in the back of the ambulance.

The female drove to the area of Braswell Lane and Patterson Street. She then jumped out of the vehicle and the employee also got out. The employee was not harmed during the incident. The investigation is still ongoing at this time. Information will be released as it becomes available.
