The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service law enforcement agency serving the citizens of Habersham County, Georgia. The Habersham County Sheriff, Joey Terrell, is an elected constitutional officer and is statutorily charged with the responsibility of providing all primary law enforcement services within Habersham County. The agency also provides related law enforcement services to the entire county, including civil and criminal process, assistance to municipal agencies, crime prevention and education programs, victim assistance services, and providing school resource officers for the Habersham County School System.

The Sheriff is also responsible for the administration and everyday operation of the Habersham County Jail.

Well once again I am having to post about IRS phone scams. I have had several citizens come to me and advise that they have had people calling them saying that they were with the IRS and that the Sheriff’s office would be coming to arrest them if they didn’t pay an amount of money. People like I have said before the IRS will not call and request you pay money over the phone. The people who are calling you are criminals. They are thieves and they will steal from you. If you don’t know the number don’t answer the phone.

On Tuesday, May 1, 2018 Habersham County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers (SRO’s) received information regarding an Instagram post that contain a threat directed toward a school located in Habersham County. SRO’s narrowed the pool of potentially involved schools until it was determined that the threat came from a student that attended the Mountain Education Charter High School. SRO’s contacted the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division for assistance. This team effort resulted in the immediate identification and arrest of the individual responsible for posting this social media threat.

Jaime Garcia of Mount Airy Georgia was arrested and charged with one count of Terroristic Threats one count Criminal Damage to Property in an unrelated matter.

“Our School Resource Officer Program’s main purpose is to ensure the safe learning environment for Habersham County students, faculty, staff, and administrators. We do this by promoting a zero tolerance policy when it comes to the threats to the safety of our schools” said Sheriff Joey Terrell.
