Clarkesville is a city located in Habersham County and is the county seat. The 2010 census estimated the city’s population at 1,733, but the updated 2016 estimate is closer to 1,770.

The current Clarkesville Mayor is Barrie Aycock. She was elected onto the Clarkesville City Council in January of 2014, but resigned in December of 2015 to run for Mayor. She was elected Mayor in March of 2016. The Mayor Pro-Tempore is Franklin Brown who was elected to the local City Council in 2006.

This center is designed to house inmates who are awaiting a trial or those inmates who have been sentenced to 12 months or less.
